Artist’s statement
I use photorealism to cover a number of different themes or subjects – I have mostly painted portraits and I am known for painting themes of hi-technology.
My portraits are about my friends, my enemies and those that inspire me.
I have painted a number of still life and landscapes.
The young boy in me wants to paint portraits of BMX riders.
The most serious side of me paints about modern engineering technologies.
The angry artist paints the most ugly thing – war.
I paint it all. I turn to seventeenth century Dutch art for inspiration and then make the twenty first century equivalent.
I am a little unusual in that I am completely self-taught.
I believe that as long as I create art for myself then that is all I need to worry about.
I am also a ‘dripper and a dropper’ abstract painter and an advanced three dimensional draftsman.
I have painted, and am most proud of the following works
- Noam Chomsky. Professor at MIT. Anarchist.
- TJ Lavin. BMX freestyle rider.
- Osama binLaden. Terrorist.
- Christophe LeVeque. BMX racer.
- Neda Soltan. Student.
- Tony Rolt. Winner of LeMans in1953.
- Jesus
- Therion. Symphonic metal band.
- The first photorealist painting of a brochure.
- The most obscene painting – IMHO.
My abstract painting is entirely about communicating emotions. My digital models are just expressions of the industrial designer in me.
I am currently working on a theme of technology in my photorealist paintings. I am not interested in the art ‘scene’ and it is unlikely in the near future my artwork will be shown in any galleries. I have decided to concentrate on other things in my life after endless disappointments in trying to ‘make it’ in the art world. I will continue to paint, but only for myself.
Recently I lost every photograph I ever had of my paintings and drawings, and the only ones I have now are what you see here on the website. This happened soon after a certain person took legal action against me for displaying my own artwork. I had this person’s permission to paint their portrait initially, but they have withdrawn it. The two paintings will never be seen again. I have one in my possession but will not photograph it and due to the loss of my photograph’s simply can’t show the other. There are also two other portraits that fall into this category as well. I am also in the unfortunate position of having to withdraw the free PDF “Photorealist painting techniques” due to the legal action taken against me. I will take quite some time but I will eventually republish this free book.
